Natural landmarks

The Municipality of Igoumenitsa boasts unique natural wealth, where protected wetlands, lush green forests, and impressive coastlines compose landscapes of exceptional beauty. The dominant feature among them is Lake Kalodiki, also known as the «Lake with the Water Lilies,» a wetland of particular ecological and aesthetic value, included in the European Natura 2000 network. Surrounded by dense reeds and rich vegetation, it serves as a refuge for numerous wildlife species and an important stop for migratory birds, while the seasonal blooming of water lilies creates a truly enchanting scene. Equally distinctive is the Perdika Recreation Park, a verdant, nature-lovers' trail with streams, small waterfalls, wooden paths, and stone bridges, offering moments of tranquility and beautiful views of the plain and Karavostasi beach. Vrachonas also holds a special place, the famous abandoned village above Syvota, with its approximately fifty-five old stone houses standing as silent witnesses of another era, within an imposing mountainous landscape with panoramic views towards Syvota and the Ionian Sea.
