The Municipality of Igoumenitsa reveals a lesser-known but particularly fascinating aspect of Thesprotia, where impressive natural landscapes meet the traces of significant ancient settlements. Near the banks of the Kalamas River, the archaeological site of Doliani, identified with ancient Fanoti, was a powerful fortified centre and the seat of the Fanotees of Thesprotia, flourishing during the Hellenistic period. Further south, on the hill above the Karavostasi cove in Perdika, stands the imposing Dymokastro, which is likely identified as Ancient Elina and preserves remnants of strong fortifications, residences, sanctuaries, and public buildings, in a strategic position with a unique view of the Ionian Sea.
